From the ground: look for missing shingles, lifted edges, and shingles or debris in the yard. Check the gutters for granule buildup. Look at the flashing around the chimney and vents for anything visibly askew.
Inside: check the attic for daylight and water staining. Photograph anything unusual with the date.
